Parents: Just a few quick things . . .

I know school is starting and we've all had to tighten our belts - it's all expensive, but we need to get some things taken care of.

First, the tournament in Arlington is less than two weeks away, and we still don't have a firm number of those of you who need hotel rooms. If you need a room for the weekend, we need to know ASAP. If you've already told us you need a room, please know that we will be asking for a credit card number in the next few days so we can make the reservations. If you bring your player to practice on Tuesday, please hang around long enough for Chris and I to get your information. We plan to be there for the whole practice on Tuesday.

Second, we MUST order uniforms for those players who need them in the next couple of days. If we don't have your order form and you need something, please make sure you get it to us by Tuesday. If you haven't paid, or have made partial payments, please get the money to us as soon as you can. We don't have enough money in the bank to float the tournament fee and the uniforms.

Finally, our team dues are due the first of each month. I think most of you will agree that we're getting out pretty easy at $35/month. Please understand that we need this money to operate on - no one is getting paid at this point (Coach Don has already spent his own money on the team, and we owe him). I know it's hard to catch us when you're dropping off your player, but if you can, please pay your dues this week. If you've already paid, and many of you have, a big thanks! Also, if you have any paperwork (medical releases, etc) that we've asked for, please get it to us. We need all of this info for the tournament and for our regular roster registration with WTPL.

If you need anything from us, or have any questions, I've listed our cell phone numbers to the left - please don't hesitate to give us a call. Just leave a message if you don't get us, and we'll get back to you. Also, if it's easier for you to mail your dues, our home address is also here on the site. I hope you're all excited about the new school year and our new season - I can't wait for our road-trip! I know it will be an exciting year for Lonestar 97!

Remember: All Black for Tuesday's practice!

Bracket for Fall Play Sunday, August 16, 2009

I went to the scheduling meeting today. I'll put a tentative schedule in the next post. Some of you might be interested in how the division has changed. We are in a U14 division. All of the 96s and the two Amarillo 97s will compete as an A bracket. Our bracket consists of all 97s. One from Midland, one from Sana Angelo, and then Arsenal, Nova and us. The two SA teams from last year consolidated, one top quality Midland team is playing in Dallas (I think that's right, but am not sure), so the team in WTPL is more developmental. Also, an Amarillo team is playing in Dallas, so the two 97s still there were considerably weakened in terms of numbers.

Our schedule is kind of odd because the Lubbock teams wanted to avoid Tuesday and Thursday games because Frenship does not have one set night for 7th grade football (unlike LISD, which plays 7th grade only on Monday nights, and only 8th grade on Tesdays). We also picked up three friendlies - all in Lubbock against 96 San Angelo teams. We'll have two road trips - to San Angelo and to Midland. In the spring we'll try to have NO road trips.

Coach Don mentioned a tournament in November - more on that later.

Parent Meeting Monday, August 10, 2009

Coach Don will be holding a parent meeting this Thursday night at 6 p.m. on the field at Atkins Middle School during practice. Please plan to attend.
Remember - practice every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6:00 at Atkins! Our season will start soon, and Labor Day tournaments are around the corner. As soon as we have more info, we'll be making travel plans for the trip. Stay tuned!

Welcome! Tuesday, August 4, 2009

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new and returning Lubbock Lone Star 97 team members and their parents! My name is Jennifer Huber, and along with my husband, Chris, we are helping our team this year by serving as managers. Our sons, Ryan and Logan are returning players to the team this year.
I'm starting this blog to help communicate with parents - both about upcoming events and important information and also fun stuff like pictures and links to other websites. I hope to make this a website that we can all benefit from, with the ability to easily get information to you and receive comments and questions about what you need from us. We learned alot about select soccer in West Texas last year, but we still have alot to learn, so bear with us as we begin this process.
Chris is collecting contact information from each of you - please try to get this back to us at your earliest convenience. It will help us learn more about you, and will enable us to get information back to you easier. We will also be ordering t-shirts and uniforms for the new players soon, so be sure to let us know what you need.
You will need to bookmark this page in your browser, or write down the address - it is not available on search engines so that we can somewhat protect our privacy. If for some reason you would NOT like for your child's photo to appear on this page, please let me know, and I'll make every reasonable attempt to do so.
Please check back for updates in the near future!
